Tesla China has launched a rather rare discount for select Model Y variants. The discount was announced by Tesla China in a post on its official social media account on Weibo.

As could be seen in Tesla China’s post on Weibo, domestic customers who order the Model Y Rear Wheel Drive (RWD) and Long Range All Wheel Drive (AWD), and take delivery of their vehicles between November 25 and December 31 can take advantage of a RMB 10,000 ($1,379) discount on their purchase. The RMB 10,000 discount is not applicable for the Tesla Model Y Performance.

For context, the Model Y RWD starts at RMB 249,900, the Model Y Long Range AWD starts at RMB 290,900, and the Model Y Performance starts at RMB 354,900, as per the vehicle’s order page. With the discount in place, customers can acquire the Model Y RWD for RMB 239,900 and the Model Y Long Range AWD for RMB 280,900 before options. Estimated delivery dates for the Model Y RWD and AWD are still listed at 1-3 weeks.

As noted in a report from CNEV Post, the RMB 10,000 discount applies to new Model Y orders, inventory units, and show cars. Model Y units that were used by Tesla China for test drives and official used vehicles, however, are not eligible for the RMB 10,000 discount. The Tesla Model 3, the Model Y’s sedan sibling, is also not eligible for the RMB 10,000 discount.

While Tesla is known for being quite volatile with its vehicle pricing, the company actually rarely implements a discount for its offerings. This makes the Model Y’s RMB 10,000 discount offer quite unique. It is then unsurprising that the promotion has triggered speculations that the electric vehicle maker is implementing the discount as a way to sell as many current-generation Model Y units as possible before it rolls out the highly-anticipated “Juniper” update, which is expected to be rolled out sometime next year.

Automotive review site Edmunds has never shied way from calling out Tesla when its vehicles miss their EPA range estimates in real-world tests. But in a recent review of the reengineered Tesla Model 3 Performance, Edmunds observed that the all-electric sports sedan was not just able to meet its EPA range estimates—it was able to exceed them.

A look at Tesla’s order page for the reengineered Model 3 Performance would show that the vehicle is listed with an EPA-estimated range of 303 miles per charge. As noted by Edmunds in a post on its website, the new Model 3 Performance actually managed to travel 307 miles in its real-world range test. That translates to a consumption of 29 kWh per 100 miles, which is quite impressive.

The automotive review firm highlighted that most Teslas that it has reviewed in the past were not able to beat or even meet their EPA range estimates. This was true for the 2018 Model 3 Performance, which traveled 256 miles in Edmunds’ range test despite its EPA-estimated range of 310 miles per charge. The same was true for Tesla’s other vehicles.

Interestingly enough, the reengineered Model 3 Performance was not the only Tesla that exceeded its EPA range estimates in Edmunds’ real-world range test. The Tesla Cybertruck Foundation Series AWD with All Terrain Tires, which was listed with 318 miles of EPA-estimated range, traveled 334 miles during the firm’s range test. That was extremely surprising and impressive considering the Cybertruck’s large size and its all-terrain tires.

This was not the first time that the reengineered Model 3 exceeded its EPA range estimates in a real-world test. Last month, EV group Out of Spec Studios performed an extreme range test between the previous generation Model 3 AWD and the reengineered Model 3 AWD. Much to the group’s pleasant surprise, the reengineered Tesla Model 3 AWD was able to travel 370 miles at 70 mph, blowing past its EPA-estimated range of 341 miles per charge.

Check out Edmunds‘ reengineered Tesla Model 3 Performance review in the  video below.

Tesla Model 3 customers in the United Kingdom are now able to order the best-selling all-electric sedan in what could very well be its most aesthetically pleasing paint option available today: Quicksilver. The premium paint option has been added to Tesla U.K.’s Model 3 order page, and it is available for all variants of the vehicle.

The addition of the premium paint option was announced by Tesla U.K. on its official account on social media platform X. With this update, customers in the U.K. are now able to order the reengineered Model 3 in Quicksilver, similar to other European countries

Quicksilver was one of two premium paint options that were developed in Giga Berlin’s advanced paint shop. Together with Midnight Cherry Red, Quicksilver was described by Tesla as a highly pigmented metallic paint that is designed to change depending on viewing angle and light

Tesla highlighted this in a promotional email about the premium paint option. “With metallic highlights and dark undertones, Quicksilver is a dynamic, multi-coat paint that offers a liquid metal effect that accentuates the curves of Model 3,” Tesla noted

Quicksilver is an especially great match for the new Tesla Model 3 Performance, as the vehicle features an extra aggressive front and rear end — both of which will be highlighted by Quicksilver’s depth and dimension.

Quicksilver is currently the most expensive paint option for the Tesla Model 3 in the U.K. As per Tesla U.K.’s order page, Quicksilver, similar to Ultra Red, adds an additional £2,000 to the Model 3’s price. For comparison, other paint options for the reengineered Model 3 in the U.K., such as Deep Blue Metallic, Solid Black, and Stealth Grey, cost an additional £1,300.

Norway saw a total of 12,966 passenger car sales in September 2024. From this number, 12,495 were battery electric vehicles. This means that 96.4% of all passenger car sales registered in Norway last month were BEVs. Tesla saw much success in the country in September, with the company seeing more than 4,000 registrations.

Tesla celebrated the milestone in a post on its official Tesla Europe & Middle East account on social media platform X. As per the electric vehicle maker, every third car registered in Norway in September 2024 was a Tesla. This statement is accurate, as Tesla saw a total of 4,210 vehicle registrations last month in Norway.

As noted by Norway’s Road Traffic Information Council (OFV), September 2024 was yet another record month for the country’s electric vehicle sector. The OFV noted that year-to-date, the share of electric vehicles amounts to about 88%. For context, Norway has a political goal of all new passenger cars from January 1, 2025 onwards being zero-emission vehicles.

OFV Director Øyvind Solberg Thorsen shared a comment about the matter. “We have loyally followed the authorities’ call to buy electric cars rather than diesel and petrol cars. With an electric car share of over 96% of new car sales in September, the 2025 target may be within reach,” he stated

The OFV also highlighted that Norway’s EV sales in September were boosted by a large shipment of Teslas that arrived during the month. This shipment effectively resulted in the Model Y crossover and Model 3 sedan showing dominance in Norway’s auto sector. As per the OFV, the Model Y saw 2,107 registrations in September, while the Model 3 saw 2,067 registrations. This made the two Teslas the best and second-best-selling vehicles in the country last month.

The gap between Tesla’s two mainstream vehicles and their competitors was notable as well. Norway’s third best-selling vehicle in September was the Volvo EX30, which saw 803 registrations. The fourth and fifth best-selling cars in the country were the Skoda Enyaq and the Toyota bZ4X, which saw 702 and 659 registrations, respectively.

The Tesla Model 3 Rear Wheel Drive (RWD) with LFP batteries are no longer listed in the all-electric sedan’s order page. The update was observed by members of the electric vehicle community on Tuesday.

A look at the Tesla Model 3’s updated U.S. order page shows that the vehicle is now offered in three variants: the Model 3 Long Range RWD, which starts at $42,490 before options and incentives; the Model 3 Long Range All Wheel Drive (AWD), which starts at $47,490 before options and incentives; and the Model 3 Performance, which starts at $54,990 before options and incentives.

Credit: Tesla

Prior to the update, another variant of the Model 3 was available, which was simply called the Model 3 RWD. The vehicle was equipped with a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery and an EPA-estimated range of 272 miles per charge. The Model 3 RWD was priced at $38,990 before options and incentives. Due to its battery pack, it also does not qualify for federal incentives.

Interestingly enough, the removal of the LFP-powered Model 3 RWD was implemented just days after the Biden administration increased tariffs on Chinese-made lithium-ion EV batteries. With this in mind, Tesla’s removal of the 272-mile Model 3 RWD may be partly due to the company’s efforts to optimize the entry-level sedan’s production costs.

Apart from the Biden administration’s new tariffs, another potential driver for the removal of the Model 3 RWD may be the presence of the Model 3 Long Range RWD, which is not equipped with an LFP battery pack. The Model 3 Long Range RWD presents better value, with its EPA-estimated range of 363 miles per charge—the highest in the Model 3 line–and a starting price of $42,490 before options and incentives.

Considering that the price gap between the Model 3 RWD and Model 3 Long Range RWD was only $3,500, a notable number of customers in the United States may be opting for the vehicle’s Long Range RWD variant. For that extra $3,500, after all, customers would be getting 91 miles of extra range and a superior 0-60 mph time. The Model 3 Long Range RWD also qualifies for federal incentives.

With just a few weeks left in the third quarter, Tesla has launched a new incentive for customers of the Model 3 and Model Y Long Range and Performance in the United States. As per the company, customers could acquire a qualified Model 3 or Model Y and pay $0 at signing.

As noted by Tesla on the order page of the Model 3 and Model Y, the $0 due at signing promotion applies to financed vehicles when buyers apply for the $7,500 federal tax credit at point of sale OR. Customers who opt in for the $0 due at signing promotion should also expect a 2.49% APR for their vehicles’ payments for up to 60 months for a Model 3 or up to 72 months for a Model Y.

Customers who wish to get an even lower APR could instead pay a 20% downpayment for a Model Y for a loan term of 36-72 months, or a Model 3 for a loan term of 36-60 months. Buyers who pay a 20% downpayment for the Model 3 or Model Y would be getting a very attractive 1.99% APR for their purchase.

Tesla has noted, however, that the promotional rates are available for qualified buyers with good credit and who order and take delivery of a new Model 3 or Model Y by the end of Q3 2024. The company also noted in its social media post that the $0 due at signing promotion applies to new orders that were placed September 12, 2024 or later.

Tesla has promoted its new incentive on the official account of Tesla North America on social media platform X. Images shared online suggest that the electric vehicle maker is also sending messages to potential customers about the ongoing promotion. Following is the message Tesla is sending to its customers about its $0 due at delivery incentive.

$0 Due at Delivery Is Available Now

Drive home a new Model 3 today without paying any out-of-pocket expenses at delivery.

Take delivery by September 30, 2024, and get $0 due at delivery plus 2.49% APR* financing on a new qualifying Model 3 for up to 60 months when you apply the Federal Tax Credit** at point-of-sale.

Or put 20% down and get 1.99% APR* when you finance a qualifying Model 3 for up to 60 months. Prequalify or design yours to get started.

The Model 3 and Model Y are Tesla’s two best-selling vehicles, and they comprise the lion’s share of the company’s sales every quarter. Both vehicles are popular, so it would be quite interesting to see just how much the recently announced $0 due at signing promotion affects Model 3 and Model Y orders in the United States this month.

The reengineered Model 3 is steadily gaining a reputation for being the most underrated Tesla in the market today. While the vehicle might seem like a standard refresh from its previous generation, the updated all-electric sedan’s improvements over its predecessor are surprisingly notable. This was, at least, according to a full range test from EV group Out of Spec Studios.

In a recently posted video on their Out of Spec Reviews YouTube channel, the EV group noted that they were testing both the reengineered and previous-generation Tesla Model 3 Long Range Dual Motor All Wheel Drive (AWD). Both vehicles had similar batteries and motors, so the test provides a good view of the improvements that have been rolled out to the new Model 3.

The nature of the group’s ultimate range test was simple. They charged both vehicles to full and ran them until they were fully discharged. Both vehicles were also tasked to travel at highway speeds of 70 mph. Differences in range between the current and previous-generation Model 3 were then computed and adjusted based on the older car’s mileage and estimated battery degradation over the years.

Supporting the two Model 3 AWD units was a Tesla Cybertruck that was ready to charge the cars as soon as they quite literally died on the side of the road. As could be seen in the group’s video, the results of the full range test were nothing short of remarkable.

The older Model 3 AWD threw in the towel close to 300 miles, which was not bad at all for the vehicle considering its age. Adjusting for factors like battery degradation, Kyle Conner, one of the channel’s hosts, estimated that the previous generation Model 3 could have done 310 miles until it stopped working.

The reengineered Tesla Model 3 Long Range AWD ended up blowing past its EPA-estimated range of 341 miles during the test, traveling a whole 370 miles at 70 mph. This is nothing short of remarkable considering that the vehicle was equipped with the same battery as its older sibling. As noted by Conner in a post on X, “Even accounting for degradation, the new car went 60 miles farther than the old car on a perfect side-by-side comparison.”

Now that the reengineered Tesla Model 3 Long Range AWD has proven its mettle, it would be great to see just how efficient the Model 3 Long Range Rear Wheel Drive (RWD) would be.

Check out Out of Spec Studios‘ old vs. new Tesla Model 3 range test in the video below.

Two new Tesla police cruisers are getting their next assignment as part of the Dubai Police Department.

The country’s Police Authority has officially added two additional Tesla EVs, one Model 3 and one Model Y, to its fleet, which will be utilized for traffic enforcement and flow to enhance the security of police officers in tourist areas.

This was confirmed by the Police Force’s official press department.

Brigadier Juma bin Suwaidan, who is Acting Director of the General Department of Traffic, said the patrols will enhance both traffic flow and security:

“The new patrols addition aim to activate a faster response time and provide better police presence in the field. This aligns with Dubai Police’s efforts to adopt the best innovative initiatives and projects in line with its forward-looking plans and programs.”

The Dubai Police Department has utilized Teslas for some time, and even has a Cybertruck cruiser in its fleet.

The Cybertruck, which has been in the fleet since June, has been used as a part of its tourist luxury patrol fleet.

It is not the only use the government has found for Tesla vehicles. The Roads and Transport Authority also has 200 Model S and Model X vehicles in its fleet that are used as limousines for government officials.

Dubai orders 200 Tesla Model S and X for use as limousines

The Dubai Police are just one of the many departments around the world that have utilized Tesla vehicles to handle police work. For the most part, law enforcement have found that Teslas are highly advantageous due to their ability to lack routine maintenance, saving tax dollars and becoming a less expensive option in the long run.

However, we recently reported on what we believe is the first police department to actually believe Teslas are not the most suitable vehicles for police patrol.

The Tesla Model 3 earned accolades in British motoring publication What Car?‘s 2024 electric vehicle awards. The awards were posted on the publication’s official account on X.

As noted by What Car?, this year’s electric vehicle awards are quite special as they include both new and used options. In both categories, Tesla’s mainstream electric sedan proved to be the best in its class.

This could immediately be seen in the previous generation Tesla Model 3, which was hailed by What Car? as its best used electric executive car for 2024. The publication noted that the previous generation Model 3 still offers a very good value, especially since the all-electric sedan could be acquired for as low as £15,000 in the UK’s second hand market today for its Rear Wheel Drive (RWD) Standard Range Plus variant.

Considering that the previous generation Model 3 earned accolades in What Car?‘s EV awards, it was no surprise that the reengineered Tesla Model 3 sedan was also hailed by the publication as its best new electric executive car for 2024. Interestingly enough, the publication hailed the new Model 3’s RWD variant as its top pick.

What Car? noted that the new Model 3, which received a full rework of its interior and suspension, is “great to drive, packed full of tech, incredibly fast and even surprisingly practical, with room for nine carry-on suitcases in its boot.” This is quite unsurprising considering that Tesla really worked on the new Model 3’s details, effectively making an already great car an even better vehicle.

This is not the first time that Tesla’s vehicles were able to gain awards from What Car?. The publication has also dubbed the Tesla Model Y Long Range as its best family electric SUV for long journeys due to the vehicle’s performance, features, and practicality. The Tesla Supercharger Network also won the publication’s technology award due to its reliability and ease of use.

Tesla China has quietly announced that its popular zero-interest rate promotion for the Giga Shanghai-made Model 3 and Model Y has been extended to the end of September. Customers who wish to take advantage of the promotion must order and take delivery of their vehicles before September 30, 2024, the final day of the third quarter

A look at Tesla China’s order pages for the Model 3 and Model Y shows that the zero-interest loan offer is available for loan periods of up to five years. With the incentive in place, the reengineered Model 3 could be acquired for as low as RMB 2,533 ($355) per month, and the Model Y could be acquired for as low as RMB 2,833 ($397) per month with an RMB 79,900 ($11,220) downpayment.

As per Tesla China, the zero-interest promotion for the Model 3 and Model Y is for purchases of the base Model 3 Rear Wheel Drive (RWD), Model 3 Long Range Dual Motor All Wheel Drive (AWD), Model Y RWD, and Model Y Long Range Dual Motor AWD. The Model 3 Performance and Model Y Performance are not included in the zero-interest loan promotion.

Customers who do not wish to take advantage of Tesla China’s zero-interest loan offer could opt for a low-downpayment plan instead. This means paying a low downpayment of RMB 45,900 ($6,450) for the Model 3 or Model Y and getting an annual fee rate that’s as low as 0.5%, which is equivalent to an annualized interest rate of 0.92% for a 1-5 year loan.

As of writing, the Giga Shanghai-made Model 3 RWD and AWD are listed with an estimated wait time of 3-5 weeks, while the Model Y RWD and AWD are listed with an estimated wait time of 1-3 weeks, as per Tesla China’s official website.

Tesla China is about to enter the final month of the third quarter, a period that typically sees the electric vehicle maker focusing on meeting vehicle orders from the domestic market. The presence of promotions such as a zero-interest loan offer could provide Tesla China with a healthy number of orders from local customers as Q3 2024 comes to a close.
