I guess they are mad he didn’t want to work with them.

the binocular should be 3D for navigating or HD and night vision

Ah yes, I was thinking it could be that on the drivers side. Maybe its a normal camera and a camera for low light conditions. It could even be a 3D system for better perception of distance.
Don’t we all hate reflections!

Test mules like this have special insurances and there are other laws, speed restrictions and for example cant be used for commercial or private use. They go from the company or where they are built and follow a strict route that was registered and planned before hand. Every stop and in this case charging stop is planned. The cars don’t deviate from the course and all info regarding the drive is logged.
In Munich, where I am, I see BMW prototypes driving around that have not yet been released so their entire body is covered by a second body of a different shape with about 1-3cm gap between. There are sharp edges, screws and all sorts of stuff. The headlight are nearly completely covered with only small holes for the main light beams. With these early prototypes you usually see two cars, one in front and one behind that make sure no other cars pull in in front or behind as well.

I tried to circle the suction mount and the “binocular” lenses below it. There is a lot lost to the reflections, unfortunately.

To me it looks like:
large front facing camera with greater depth of field and probably with night vision
small dashcam
2 identical smaller cameras pointing 45° in either direction from the center for better detection of objects and vehicles in other lanes and on sidewalks etc.

Pure speculation— but since the refreshed nose JUST came out, it seems unlikely anyone else would have access to that body part other than Tesla or a supplier working directly with them. Plus the modifications to the new fascia piece suggest it’s been mounted on that car for some period of time, which means whoever is operating it has had access for, well… some period of time. To me that points to Tesla or a very close supplier. Odd that they couldn’t color match the fascia itself, even though the second piece is matched to the main bumper… but who knows.

Is it even allowed on the road like that? Very nice to see testing though.

Who says it’s Tesla’s car?
